Sometimes I just want to give my transcriptions away. Whether they be a little weird and awkward, or just a cool piece I think everybody should have access to. Hope you enjoy the music! Please do let me know if you try any of this stuff, just so I know it's getting out thereClarinet Quintets
Clarinet Quintet - Taylor - Variations on 'Adeste Fideles' - A lovely piece for the holiday season based on the Christmas carol Adeste Fideles, or 'O Come, All Ye Faithful'
Scored for 4 Bb clarinets and bass clarinet (with additional parts for the lower auxiliary clarinets)
Clarinet Quintet - Bach - Toccata in D minor 'Dorian' - Here's a piece that I love to play on the organ and it's alright for clarinet quintet, but it's a bit awkward.
Scored for 4 Bb clarinets and bass clarinet (with additional parts for the lower auxiliary clarinets)
Clarinet Quintet - Brahms - Herzlich tut mich verlangen - This chorale prelude is in my top three favorite of Brahms' opus 122. (remember, the clarinet sonatas are opus 120). He composed these as he was dying and a somber mood is refected in most of them. I always love performing this on the organ during Lent at my church as it is one of my favorite chorale tunes. It calls for 3 B-flats, an alto/basset and bass clarinet (with optional contra parts). The alto/basset part can also be played by a second bass clarinet. Enjoy!
Clarinet Choir
Clarinet Choir - Berlioz - Roman Carnival Overture - Here's an arrangement of Roman Carnival Overture. I don't think it has ever been performed. It's very very hard and has tons of fast tonguing.Scored for E-flat clarinet, 5 B-flats, Alto/Basset, Bass, Contra
Clarinet Choir - Widor - Organ Symphony No 6 - Movement 3 - Here's the third movement to Widor's Sixth Organ Symphony. The first movement works quite well, but I'm not fully convinced that the third works yet. Maybe I just didn't have a big enough group when I tried it out. Has potential.
Scored for E-flat clarinet, 5 B-flats, Alto/Basset, Bass, Contra
Solo Flutes with Clarinets
Clarinet Choir - Doppler - Rondo for Two Flutes and Clarinets - OK, here's one of my favorite pieces ever. Franz Doppler's Andante and Rondo, Op. 25. This has kinda become a signature showpiece that I have played many many times. I performed in a recital outdoors a few months ago and as the date approached, my flute choir folk kept bailing on me. I knew I had some good trusty clarinet players on board though. With only a day to throw this together, I arranged the accompaniment for an expandable clarinet quintet.
The solo flute parts are not included yet, but any standard edition should work. Enjoy!
Flute Quartet
Mixed Ensemble - Saint-Saens - Finale from Carnival of the Animals for Flute Quartet with accompaniment - Here is the Finale from Saint-Saens's ever-popular work, The Carnival of the Animals. This was the piece in Fantasia 2000 which featured the flamingos playing with yo-yos. Definitely a show-stopper!
Scored for Flute Quartet (Piccolo, 2 C Flutes and Alto Flute) accompanied by either a Piano or expandable Clarinet Quartet (3 B-flat, Bass)
Flute Quartet - Buxtehude - Fugue in C Major - Jig Fugue - This is an arrangement of Dietrich Buxtehude's Fugue in C Major originally composed for the organ.
Scored for Piccolo, 2 C Flutes and Alto Flute (or a 3rd C Flute)
Flute Choir
Flute Choir - Mussorgsky - Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks from 'Pictures at an Exhibition' - First performed by the Seattle Pacific University Flute Choir under the direction of Shelley Collins. Then I had my high school kids play it. A cute piece!
Scored for Piccolo, 4 C Flutes, Alto and Bass/Cello/Bassoon
Flute Choir - Mussorgsky - Tuileries from 'Pictures at an Exhibition' - Again, first performed under the direction of Shelley Collins at the same concert as the Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks.
Scored for Piccolo, 4 C Flutes, Alto and Bass/Cello/Bassoon
Horn Quartet with Clarinet Choir
Mixed Ensemble - Schumann - Concertstuck - First Movement - This is the first movement of the Concertstuck by Robert Schumann arranged for horn quartet accompanied by clarinet choir. Back in college, I always heard horn players practicing parts of this piece, but when it comes down to it, it's hard to pull an entire orchestra together in order to perform this piece. I hope this arrangement makes it a little more accessible. The first performance of this arrangement took place at the Ballard Locks in Seattle as part of their outdoor concert series.
Scored for 4 Solo Horns with Clarinet Choir (E-flat, 4 B-flat, Alto/Basset, Bass, Contra)
Woodwind Quintet
Woodwind Quintet - Grainger - Molly on the Shore - Here's my arrangement of Grainger's Molly on the Shore for woodwind quintet. It's a lot of fun! I feel like giving it away just because it is so much fun.
Bassoon Choir
Bassoon Choir - Grainger - Irish Tune - First performed at the Florida State University Double Reed Camp in 2004. If you have 5 friends who play bassoon, then this is the piece for you..... The contrabassoon part could be played by a string bass, or maybe a tuba reading the part down an octave.
Scored for 5 bassoons and contrabassoon
